Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra Tour
In defense of Ukraine and its cultural heritage, Keri-Lynn Wilson will be leading the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra on its inaugural tour of Europe and America. Composed of leading Ukrainian musicians from both inside and outside of Ukraine, the orchestra was created by Ms. Wilson with support from the governments of Ukraine and Poland and the Metropolitan Opera and the Polish National Opera.
After an opening concert at the Teatr Wielki–Polish National Opera on July 28th (streamed and broadcast by ARTE, the German/French cultural channel), the orchestra will perform in London at the Proms on July 31st (streamed and broadcast by the BBC), followed by Munich at the Isarphilharmonie on August 1st; the Chorégies d’Orange Festival in France on August 2nd (radio broadcast by France Musique), the Berlin Konzerthaus on August 4th, the Edinburgh International Festival on August 6th, Snape Maltings in England on August 8th, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Festival on August 11th, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie on August 13th, the National Concert Hall in Dublin on August 15th, Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center on August 18th and 19th, and the Kennedy Center on August 20th.
The program includes Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov’s Seventh Symphony; Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova; the Abscheulicher aria from Beethoven’s Fidelio, sung by Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska; and either Brahms’s Fourth Symphony or Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony.
Money raised from the tour will go to support Ukrainian artists. Donations can be made to the Ministry of Culture here.
